You Heard My Prayer

How to begin? It seems that the prevailing theme for me right now is "What is my purpose? Why am I here? What is my life?" All day, I've been listening to inspirational music, prayers, and yet my inside was at... unrest.

Something started to shift a little bit while listening to some worship music. It seems that it's all about remembering my calling these days. It's as if I keep forgetting that it's there and I fall into darkness. But God is with me and he does help me!

So, I go for a walk. I take my phone with me so I can listen to Hillsong UNITED. I love their of Dirt and Grace album. I step outside and start walking slowly, the music in my ears. I walk down the hill and go onto the main road. I sing along to the music. Singing is one of the most inspiring things to my heart, but walking and singing can be tricky! I start looking for a spot without too much snow; maybe somewhere to stand and lean against a tree. Something even better comes along: a tree stump at the perfect height to sit on and just off the road. Also, not near any houses so I could really sit and sing my heart out without thoughts about people.

I sit down on the stump, which is surprisingly dry considering the current weather here in Anchorage (snowy, rainy, foggy). The music is playing. Prince of Peace comes on. It's one of my favorites. With my eyes closed, I sing along as much as I can remember the lyrics.

And my soul will know Your love surrounds me

When my thoughts wage war

When night screams terror

There Your voice will roar

Come death or shadow

God I know Your light will meet me there

And my soul will know

When fear comes knocking

There You'll be my guard

When day breeds trouble

There You'll hold my heart

Come storm or battle

God I know Your peace will meet me there

Oh, be still my heart

And my soul will ever know that You are God

And You heard my prayer

At that last line, I open my eyes and this is what I see:

The sun hadn't been out all day! "You heard my prayer," is what I thought. He heard it. He knows my prayer before I even utter a word. When I came back home, I read all the lyrics and the word "sun" is used three times in the song! I hadn't even noticed that while I was sitting there, singing. And then he shows up in the form of the sun!

I still don't know what it is I'm here to do, but I'm happy that signs and miracles are always there when I need them. God, I so want to know! And I want to trust you will show me when it's time. I know you have a plan for me and I am so excited to learn of it and fulfill it.

The other day, I read a bit in A Course in Miracles about God's teachers and their pupils:

Certain pupils have been assigned to each of God's teachers, and they will begin to look for him as soon as he has answered the Call. They were chosen for him because the form of the universal curriculum that he will teach is best for them in view of their level of understanding. His pupils have been waiting for him, for his coming is certain. Again, it is only a matter of time. Once he has chosen to fulfill his role, they are ready to fulfill theirs. Time waits on his choice, but not on whom he will serve. When he is ready to learn, the opportunities to teach will be provided for him.

This is so inspiring to me; that there are those that are assigned to me and will look for me when I answer the call. I'm looking forward to meeting you all! I don't want you to wait any longer. If I'm here, if I was put here for you, I don't want you to wait any longer!

Jesus, there's nothing I want but you! Show me the way. It's not an accident I named this website "In His Steps," I can see that now! I but want to follow. Whatever is still in the way of my following, I want to see it and give it to You. I love you.

What a life!

Here is Prince of Peace. Enjoy!
